BlackPrint
Jan - May 2024
Prototype a Latin America based location intelligence platform for the startup BlackPrint, where users have public access to a broad range of geospatial data, and are able to filter and select properties based on personal preferences and criterions.
This project is a partnership between BlackPrint and Web Development @ Berkeley.
The Project
-
The Challenge
The purpose of this platform is to let users find their ideal locations and properties in Mexico through accessing the broad range of geospatial data BlackPrint holds.
It aims to provide accurate and ideal location results based on the user’s preferences, such as price range, region, land purpose, etc. The client emphasises and navigability and simplicity of the platform.
Being able to make full use of BlackPrint’s up-to-date geospatial data is key, as other location intelligence platforms often lack transparency or does not contain up-to-date information that reflects the rapid locational development (e.g. abundance of parcels, establishment of new railways and transportation systems) in Latin America.

The Target Audience
The platform’s target audience is split into 3 main segments:
Real Estate Developers: Can use the platform to filter cities for specific land or property qualities that align with their development plans
Consumer Chains: Can identify ideal locations for new stores based on geographic and demographic data.
Urban Planners: Can visualize available services and infrastructure distribution in specific parts of the city.

My Role
I was a project manager for this partnership, co-leading a team of 4 designers and 10 developers.
The frames and work below are completed in collaboration with 4 designers: Kira Fukuda, Sophia Matthews, Pranav Prasad, Rachel Quach.
The Set Up: Design Systems, Typography and Brand Identity
Colour Palette and Icon Designs:
Consistent with client-requested colour scheme of black, blue and grey.
Icon system emphasises on being simple and navigable.
Typography and Web Elements:
Proceeded with a sans font for simplicity and readability
Designed multiple versions of dark / light themed headers and footers consistent with previous colour scheme
2. Low Fidelity Frames
With a clear roadmap of a landing page, a custom filtering functionality, and a location results page, here are the low fidelity frames of the layout of the website. Research and inspiration are taken from multiple location query websites, such as AirBnb, spot2.com and Google Maps.
Landing Page Designs
Map Query / Filtering Functions
These frames demonstrate an example layout and user flow of the site, where users would first enter their custom preferences (e.g. property type, price range and purpose), followed by the site displaying appropriate and ideal properties / locations that fit the user’s needs.
Location Information Page Design
Upon the landing page, our client wanted users to be able to filter by multiple categories before entering the map section, including the user’s industry and ideal location.
These are two alternate designs we presented the clients with.
These are sample frames of what would display if a user were to select a property / location.
Our vision was to open a new tab when the user selects a property, which displays different statistics and information pertaining the property, including:
1. Property Details: amenities, history, age, property type
2. Demographics: age distribution, neighbourhood name and statistics
3. Competitors: similar brands and chains in nearby area, market statistics (market worth, market share, etc)
4. Foot traffic: nearby railroads, methods of transportation available
What was Delivered
By the end of the project, our team was able to develop a fully prototyped, high-fidelity model of the platform, with the following accomplished:
- Brand identity and design system
- Extensive wireframes and mockups
- UI components that align with the approved designs
- Homepage
- Interactive multi-layered map viewer
- Search bar + advanced filtering tools
- User Authentication
